Photography Under Glass

The Conservatory loves you!
Instructor: Ray Pfortner
This Class includes 4 private hours reserved only for workshop participants to photograph after the Conservatory closes to the public. Learn about camera settings and special techniques to best capture the glory of the Gardens. Explore principles of composition to make your images the most compelling they can be through in-class and online critiques.

See your results hanging in the Conservatory as part of a final juried photo exhibit with evening reception Thursday, Mar 5. Learn about framing, pricing, hanging, and promoting in the process – whether this will be your first show, or your fiftieth. For all visual artists, with any level of experience, using any digital camera, whether creating photographs to frame or as artists reference to render later in the medium of choice from acrylics to graphite, pastels to watercolor. Class meets on 4 days in two locations.

Saturdays, Jan. 17, 24 from 2:00 – 6:00pm at the Conservatory

Botanical Drawing in Watercolor and Ink

Instructor: Lisa Snow Lady
Capture the essence of flowers and plants with simple, quick techniques and portable materials. In this intuitive approach you will learn tips that can be applied to sketching everyday objects and your travels, serving as priceless souvenirs. Instructor Lisa Snow Lady has a BFA in painting and a degree in ornamental horticulture and has been sketching for over 20 years. She loves to encourage students of all artistic levels. Class meets on 4 Wednesdays

Botanical Block Printing

Instructor: Susan Waite
Whether you are a total beginner or have experience with the fun and easy medium of block printing, this class is for you. We will cover basics of designing, cutting, registering and printing of your designs that you create in the easily carved Safety- Cut blocks. To take your printing projects further, we will fashion specialty papers with paste-paint and watercolor rubbing with which to print upon or use in combination with your prints in collage or your own special projects. Teacher has carving tools, as well as the other print making equipment for class use. Safety Cut blocks and printmaking papers will be available for purchase, so you can just show up. If you wish to gather your own supplies, a list is available. Supply fee of $15 payable to instructor. Class meets on 5 Fridays.

Explore the beauty of the Conservatory through watercolor painting with instructor Jan Morris. Explore shapes, textures and color in this fun class using the conservatory as a backdrop. Bring what watercolor supplies you have to the first class, then supply list will be discussed. Class meets on 6 Tuesdays.
