President’s Message

We are starting out 2014 with some exciting news! All of the hard work of our volunteers at the FOC and tireless support of the members and donors is starting to show fruition. The remodel of the Seasonal and Cactus Houses and the East Potting Shed is starting to blossom!

Just this week, all City of Seattle departments have provided final approval of the project plans. Next, the remodel project will go out for bid!

We  anticipate construction on the Seasonal and Cactus Houses will run May 1st through September 30th. There are additional ADA improvements which are necessary and will extend the construction time a bit longer than initially anticipated. We’ll keep you informed when they are finalized.

If you are in need of a little break from our suddenly grey and damp weather, stop by and check out the Conservatory The Orchid collection is outdoing itself this year; the display in the Palm House is spectacular! Additionally, don’t forget to look up while touring through the Palm House. The Giant, White Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia nicolai) has multiple flowers overhead.

Remember that the Conservatory, in conjunction with the Seattle Asian Art Museum, is Free on 1st Thursdays and Saturdays of the month.

I would like to extend a THANK YOU to everyone that responded to my request for volunteers in the November 2013 newsletter. We are currently looking for people that would be interested in serving on the Board of Directors. Please email me with your interest at:

Thank you for your continued support of the Friends of the Conservatory.
