Thank you!

The Friends of the Conservatory (FOC) would like to take a moment to thank everyone for helping make 2017 such a banner year.

Over the course of 2017 we’ve had our fair share and more of fantastic and successful fundraisers. We’re so happy to announce that we’ve raised over $25,000 this year with our plant sales, art shows, raffles, dance parties and workshops. We couldn’t have done it without you! The money raised will help continue our education efforts and support for the Volunteer Park Conservatory with docent tours, the free “corner of education” in the Palm House Gift Shop, and much more. Of course we couldn’t have done this without the help of our wonderful team of volunteers who are willing to show up early and stay late to support the FOC events. We LOVE our volunteers and appreciate every moment they spend supporting the Conservatory with us.

We also added a couple new employees to the team this year, bringing the number to three part-time employees. Mollie and Khue help answer questions, connect with the Parks Dept., oversee membership issues, and so much more.

Beyond the regular rotation of magical plant displays in the Conservatory, we had some big changes in the central Palm House this year. It got a bit of of a reboot with the removal of a few palms getting too large. It was sad to see them go but we’re excited to see our new plant friends grow up happy in their place. There are also new carnivorous plants in the Fern House to enjoy, and the orchids in the Palm House have been a steady stream of beauty. The Takedama displays and Chrysanthemum exhibits in the Seasonal House this fall were a huge hit, while the Cactus House continues to be a favorite of many.

We would like to give a very special thanks to the genius team of gardeners for curating and maintaining our robust and elegant gardens that we love so dearly. We wouldn’t be here without them, that’s for sure! Thank you David Helgenson,

We look forward to spending 2018 with you!
